I never drink soda. But this isn’t soda as most people know it. When I saw this botanically brewed beverage in our corner produce market it reminded me that long ago medicinal drinks were concocted with the juice of real roots, herbs and berries; before corn syrup-based flavorings were created in sterile food labs. In a time when most people are forced to taste the same flavors day in and day out, this drink is a strong statement that we don’t have to live that way.
A few feet away from the cooler where I found my new drink was this delight. I checked the label and was happy to see the V for Vegan symbol on the back. Yes!! After bringing it home I took the label’s advice and made a dark-chocolate peanut butter banana sandwich. When asked how it was, I could only say, “You don’t want to go there. You don’t even want to start.” If you go there, you will go spoon-to-jar. There are few vegan nutella-substitutes out there, and this is one of them! It may not be hazelnut, but you won’t be disappointed. This was the perfect compromise for us since I’m not a plain peanut butter fan. (Once in a while peanut-butter jelly toasted english muffin is fine.)
